EUMETSAT Social Security System

All Staff members, and generally their families, are affiliated to EUMETSAT's own social security system, which includes health insurance, long-term care insurance, death benefits and unemployment benefits. Normally Staff members and their eligible dependants will be enrolled on a cost-sharing basis in EUMETSAT’s health scheme , managed by Van Breda International, which provides coverage for medical and hospital costs and also for optical and dental treatment. The Staff member's contribution to the social security scheme is 2.5% of the monthly basic salary for health insurance and death-in-service benefits, and 0.1% of monthly basic salary for unemployment benefits. Long-Term care benefits are provided at the currently established Staff member’s contribution of 18 Euro per month.

Pension Scheme

Staff are affiliated to the EUMETSAT Pension scheme to which the Staff member's contribution is 9.3% of the monthly basic salary for new starters as of 1 January 2011. Retirement pensions accrue to those Staff members who have completed 10 years service with the organisation. A severance grant is payable on leaving with less than 10 years service. Invalidity pensions are payable regardless of service in cases of total incapacity. The scheme provides immediate pension for eligible survivors in the case of death of a Staff member.
