Moving and settling to another country can be a challenging task, especially when combined with starting a new job. To assist new Staff members in settling as quickly as possible in their new environment, EUMETSAT provides relocation and familiarisation services, as well as support with childcare facilities and social services. Relocation EUMETSAT provides, via an external company, support to Staff members and their families moving into the Darmstadt area; for example, in finding accommodation, opening a bank account and registering residence in Germany. Familiarisation A programme of Induction training helps new Staff to become familiar with EUMETSAT, and, in the case of Staff arriving from another country, to help them and their family to integrate into Germany. A two-day workshop (usually in English) provided by an external company, helps expatriates to acclimatise to Germany. The programme focuses on aspects of daily life and work in Germany, which is particularly relevant for expatriated employees and their family. EUMETSAT also offers language training (German, French, English) to staff members, as well as subsidising German language training at local language schools for staff members’ spouses. Social Services Staff members at EUMETSAT are able to take advantage of the services of an on-site Social Services Advisor, who can provide counselling and support on a wide range of personal issues, such as stress management, interpersonal conflicts, work-life balance and many more. Child Care EUMETSAT offers staff members the chance to utilise the services of Fluggis Abenteuerland, which is an emergency childcare facility for children up to age 12 (or 15 during school holidays). |
