Monitoring weather and climate from space

Eastern European and Balkan Countries

EUMETSAT is committed to support National Meteorological Services in World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Association VI (Europe) countries, which do not belong to the EUMETSAT Cooperating or Member States family. The objective is to support users, mainly the NMHS, to access EUMETSAT data and products and get regular information on EUMETSAT’s current activities and future plans. This is part of EUMETSAT strategy to promote operational access to its data and supports the WMO Regional Association VI (RA-VI) Strategic Plan, which calls in particular for “Improved capitalization on Regional assets ( ECMWF, EUMETSAT, EUMETNET, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology (ICH)) by encouraging broader use of outputs”.

In 2009, EUMETSAT initiated the organisation of regular meetings with representatives of the National Meteorological Services of these countries, in order to facilitate the exchange of information and gather feedback from the users of EUMETSAT data and products in these countries:

  • Information Day in Kiev (May 2009), for Eastern European Countries

  • Information Day in Montenegro (June 2009), for Western Balkan countries

  • Workshop in April 2011 in Skopje (FYR of Macedonia), for Eastern European, Caucasian and Western Balkan countries

EUMETSAT has also initiated the Data Access for Western Balkan, Eastern European and Caucasian Countries ( DAWBEE) project in order to support operational access to EUMETSAT data and products in these countries.
