Further information about EUMETSAT
Overview
EUMETSAT was formed in 1986 with the objective to provide, from space, information that can be used in weather forecasting and climate applications.
Member & Cooperating States
EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental organisation, formed to service the Member and Cooperating States which fund our activities.
Management Structure
The decision-making body of EUMETSAT is the Council, which is composed of delegates from the Member States. The day-to-day running of the organisation is carried out by the Director-General and his staff of around 200 people from the Member States.
Funding
EUMETSAT derives the vast majority of its funding from the contributions of its Member States. These contributions are calculated as pro-rata to the Gross National Income (GNI) of the respective State. This helps justify the democratic principles by which EUMETSAT is controlled, on the basis of one vote for each country and weighted majority voting on key financial issues.

Our history page provide general background information and insight into the important milestones that influenced EUMETSAT’s development.
