The atmospheric information available from our satellites has wider benefits than its contribution to weather forecasting. The records built up in the EUMETSAT archives help detect climate change and are a valuable resource to scientists trying to gain a better understanding of the processes that affect climate change. Information on the composition of the atmosphere, derived from our satellite measurements, plays a vital role in building our knowledge of the state of the environment, and in the assessment of environmental risks, such as ozone depletion in the stratosphere and the build-up of pollutants in the atmosphere.
