Symposium "Expectations to the Climate Change Monitoring using Earth Observation Satellites"

The EUMETSAT Director-General, Dr. Lars Prahm, is attending a symposium on “Expectations to the Climate Change Monitoring using Earth Observation Satellites”.

The symposium is hosted by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency ([External link]JAXA) in Tokyo on 15 April 2010.

At the symposium, international space and meteorological agencies will introduce their climate change monitoring initiatives and discuss expectations of future international cooperation. Participants include representatives of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), European Space Agency, Group on Earth Observations and Global Climate Observing System. Dr. Prahm will make two presentations at the symposium:

  • Contribution to climate change monitoring by EUMETSAT programmes
  • Possible EUMETSAT-JAXA cooperation on GCOM (Global Change Observation Mission)


The symposium will stress the importance of international cooperation to achieve climate monitoring initiatives.
