FYR of Macedonia signs license agreement with EUMETSAT

A delegation from the National Meteorological Service (NMS) of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) visited EUMETSAT on 8 July on the occasion of the new license agreement for the official duty use of Meteosat data.

The NMS of FYROM has been equipped with a EUMETCast station since 2005 and has developed national capacities for the use of Meteosat data for nowcasting, agricultural and forestry applications, hydrology and climatology.

The NMS of FYROM is also part of the Data Access for Western Balkan and Eastern European Countries (DAWBEE) initiative, which aims to secure access to EUMETSAT data in the non-EUMETSAT Member States in these regions. Through DAWBEE, they will receive a reception station and training for the operational use of EUMETSAT data and products.

DAWBEE is part of the EUMETSAT strategy to promote operational access to EUMETSAT data and supports the WMO RA-VI Strategic Plan, which calls in particular for “Improved capitalization on Region assets (ECMWF, EUMETSAT, EUMETNET, ICH) by encouraging broader use of outputs”.
