Poland and EUMETSAT
Poland will become a full Member State in EUMETSAT in 2009. EUMETSAT is encouraging all Cooperating States to become Member States so its membership mirrors that of the European Union.

NOAA takes over Jason-2 satellite operations
After four months of tests and qualification of the entire satellite and the ground segment by the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the French space agency, command and control operations for the Jason-2 ocean altimetry satellite were handed over to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on 29 October.

Accra User Forum
The 8th EUMETSAT User Forum is being held in Accra, Ghana, on 6-10 October 2008. Organised in cooperation with the Ghana Meteorological Agency, the biennial forum is part of EUMETSAT’s initiative to strengthen links with the user community in Africa.

Meteosat Third Generation
Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) will not only provide continuity beyond Meteosat Second Generation (MSG), it will also bring major improvements, in line with growing requirements by users. Unlike the two previous generations of Meteosat spinning satellites, MTG will be three-axis stabilised and each satellite will have different payloads for four different observation missions.
