Marine forecasting workshop

EUMETSAT and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are holding a workshop at the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission office in Ostend, Belgium, on 14-18 December 2009.

Nobel-Prize winner Professor Paul J Crutzen visits EUMETSAT

Professor Paul J. Crutzen, the Nobel Prize-winning atmospheric chemist, visited EUMETSAT on 7 December. He discussed the role of satellites in monitoring climate change and atmospheric composition, in preparation for a keynote speech he is making during the COP-15 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen on 11 December.

EUMETSAT meets with KMA

On 28 October, EUMETSAT held a bilateral meeting with the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) on the fringes of the 37th meeting of the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) on Jeju Island, South Korea. The two delegations were led by Dr. Lars Prahm, Director-General of EUMETSAT, and Dr. Byung-Seong Chun, Administrator, KMA.

Happy anniversary to IMGW

The EUMESAT Director-General, Dr. Lars Prahm, is attending the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) in Warsaw on 7 September. Dr. Prahm said: “I am happy that the IMGW is celebrating its 90th anniversary as the newest EUMETSAT Member State. It was good to welcome Prof. Mieczyslaw Ostojski, Director-General of the IMGW, to the EUMETSAT Council on 1 July for the first time as a full member.”
