Arctic ozone depletion in March 2011

Latest Arctic ozone measurements suggest that atmospheric ozone levels have probably sunk to a record low during the period of March 2011.

This reduction is visible also in the O3M SAF products based on the Metop [Internal link]GOME-2 instrument. The images below show total ozone in Scandinavia in March 2010 and 2011. The mean arctic ozone level is generally above 400DU, with significant variability related to atmospheric dynamics, as demonstrated by the March 2010 situation. The low level of ozone this year is also seen in the Ozone Profile (lower right) and the UV Index Values (lower left).
