Information Day in Ukraine
EUMETSAT is holding an information day in Kiev, Ukraine, on 19 May 2009. The event is being held at the Great Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and hosted by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Research Institute (UHMI). The EUMETSAT delegation at the event is headed by Mikael Rattenborg, Director of Operations.

EUMETSAT participates in MyOcean kick-off ceremony
During the MyOcean kick-off ceremony held in Toulouse on 1 April 2009, EUMETSAT highlighted its major contribution to the marine user community in reaffirming the EUMETSAT Council’s decision of December 2006 to position EUMETSAT as the major European space data provider for operational oceanography. Concretely, it recalled that all its data and products will be delivered without charge to MyOcean (2008-2010).

GOME-2 monitors SO2 from Alaska volcano
The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) instrument on board EUMETSAT’s Metop polar-orbiting satellite has been monitoring sulphur dioxide (SO2) being emitted from the Mount Redoubt volcano in Alaska. The volcano began erupting on 23 March after 20 years of inactivity and is still unstable.

GMES and Africa
On 9-12 March 2009, the GMES and Africa Coordination Group is meeting at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy, to begin drafting the Action Plan on GMES and Africa for submission to the next EU-Africa Summit in 2010.

Microwave Humidity Sounder
The Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) on board the Metop-A, NOAA-18 and NOAA N’ polar-orbiting satellites measures atmospheric water vapour to determine vertical atmospheric humidity profiles.
