Nowcasting: helping deliver localised weather forecasts
To improve the accuracy of forecasting, meteorologists need exact and up-to-date data of atmospheric motions and conditions in a localised area. The EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Support to Nowcasting & Very Short Range Forecasting (NWC SAF) provides tools and software that help deliver tailored short-range forecasts.

EUMETSAT satellites follow Grímsvötn volcanic ash and SO2 plumes
Following the eruption of the Grímsvötn volcano in Iceland on the evening of 21 May, two separate plumes of ejected sulphur dioxide (SO2) and volcanic ash are observed by EUMETSAT's geostationary and polar orbiting instruments.

EUMETSAT satellites observe Grímsvötn volcanic ash cloud
EUMETSAT’s Meteosat-9 and Metop-A satellites have been observing the volcanic dust, sulphur dioxide (SO2), and water cloud spewing out of the Grímsvötn volcano in Iceland since it began erupting on the evening of 21 May.

Tracking Tsunamis with Data Collection Platforms
EUMETSAT supports Data Collection Platform (DCP) operators by helping them exchange environmental data from remote locations and to provide early warning of impending hazards, as with the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System.
