The Director-General of EUMETSAT, Dr. Lars Prahm, and the Director of Operations and Infrastructure of the European Space Agency (ESA), Gaele Winters, today are signing the contract for the Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) service for the last two Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellites, MSG-3 and MSG-4, to be provided by ESA’s European Satellite Operations Centre (ESOC).

EUMETSAT and Canada strengthen cooperation in weather,climate and environmental monitoring from space
EUMETSAT and Canada today initialled a memorandum of understanding to advance cooperation in satellite monitoring activities. Under the agreement, which will come into effect in 2008, Europe and Canada will work together to improve weather, climate and environmental monitoring through the observation of atmosphere and oceans.

Scientists at the Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), the German Aerospace Center, continue the long-term monitoring of the evolution of the ozone hole by analysing data from the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment 2 (GOME-2) instrument on board EUMETSAT’s Metop-A polar operating satellite, Europe’s new meteorological satellite.

EUMETSAT, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, will hold its 62nd Council Meeting at the kind invitation of Declan Murphy, Chairman of the EUMETSAT Council and Director of the National Meteorological Institute, Met Eireann, in Cork City, Ireland, 26 - 27 June 2007.
