Jason-2 begins mapping oceans
Less than a month after the launch of the Jason-2 ocean altimetry satellite, the Ocean Surface Topography Mission has produced its first complete maps. The maps were calculated from the first 10 days of Jason-2’s operational orbit starting on 4 July.

The Director-General of EUMETSAT, Dr. Lars Prahm, and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arianespace, Jean-Yves Le Gall, have signed the contract for the launch service for the last Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellite, MSG-4.

EUMETSAT agrees to provide data for GMES
During its 64th Council meeting on 1-2 July, EUMETSAT, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, agreed to provide its data and products for the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) initiative.
