Consolidation of Meteosat Data Collection Platform Data

On 07 December 2011 EUMETSAT plans to consolidate the way it disseminates Meteosat Data Collection Platform (DCP) data.

The switch will happen at 13:00 UTC, after which time there will be a risk period of approximately 1 hour. During this period DCP data provided via the internet on the “Public DCP Service” may be interrupted, delayed or duplicated.

The changes that will affect the users are as follows:

-    DCP Bulletins will no longer be distributed via [Internal link]EUMETCast
-    DCP Bulletins will no longer be distributed via the [Internal link]direct dissemination service
-    DCP messages sent over the [Internal link]internet (Auxiliary Data (Quality Records)) will now be available on User accounts
-    DCP Bulletins sent on the [Internal link]GTS will continue to be sent as normal.

Following the change the MSG DCPs downloaded from the Public DCP Service on the internet will include a DCP quality record.

The downloaded gzip DCP files will have the following format:

The first 86 Bytes will contain the DCP Service header, as explained on this [Internal link]table.

The following 31 Bytes will contain the DCP Quality record (DCP_QUALITY), as described in appendix A.7 of [Download link]MSG Ground Segment LRIT/HRIT Mission Specific Implementation.

The DCP message (DCP_MESSAGE) will appear after the DCP Quality record. This is also described at appendix A.7 of the above document. The size of the DCP_Message is variable.

The above sequence is repeated in subsequent messages throughout the gzip file.
