EUMETCast History

The following lists the milestones in the development of EUMETCast from its conception in 2002 with the provision of ATOVS retransmissions to today's multi-service dissemination system.

  Oct   Increase of bandwidth for the C-Band EUMETCast Africa Service by 300 Kbps  
  Sep   Addition of the MPEF product "Clear Sky Radiance" (CSR) to the EUMETCast dissemination schedule (was before only distributed via GTS/RMDCN)  
  Sep   Start of dissemination of 3.9 micron channel images for GOES-E and GOES-W  
  Aug   Addition of the last remaining Level 1 EPS Global Data Product (GRAS L1b, in PFS and BUFR format) to the dissemination schedule  
  Jul   Start of dissemination of NOAA Global Data Level 1b products (AVHRR GAC, AMSU-A, HIRS and MHS)  
  May   Start of dissemination the Met-8 Rapid Scanning Service images  
  May   Start of dissemination of two EPS Global Data Level 2 Products provided by SAFs: the "ASCAT L2 25 km Winds" product from the OSI SAF (KNMI/Netherlands), and the "GOME O3M-SAF Total Column" product from the O3M SAF (DLR/Germany)  
  Feb   Increase of Ku-Band bandwidth by 256 Kbps, primarily in support of extended ECMWF Forecast Data for the Basic Meteorological Data (BMD RA-VI) service  
  Jan   Start of 1-hourly Foreign Satellite Data Service (GOES-E, GOES-W, MTSAT1)  
  Jan   Start of trial dissemination of new MPEF products "Multi Sensor Precipitation Estimate" (MPEG) and "Fire Monitoring Product" (FIRG)

  Nov   Start of trial dissemination of Land-SAF products covering South America  
  Nov   Start of trial dissemination of Metop products: MHS Level 1b, HIRS Level 1b, AVHRR Level 1b, and AMSU-A Level 1b  
  Sep   Additional ECMWF products available for the Meteorological Data Dissemination (MDD) service  
  Sep   Start of GEONETCast Demonstration Service with additional products for EUMETCast-Americas (Meteorological products, GOES image data and NOAA-NESDIS products). Additionally, NOAA-NESDIS products are made available to the EUMETCast-Europe user community  
  Aug   Start of operational dissemination of additional ECMWF Forecast Data for RA-VI (BMD)  
  May   Start of test dissemination of EPS Global Data Service, with specific test campaigns in May, July and August involving Meteorological Services and User Station manufacturers)  
  May   Distribution of a new release of TelliCast Client Software to the users, followed by the operational use of a new Up-link Server Cluster platform with the corresponding new release of the TelliCast Server Software  
  May   Start of dissemination of MSG-2 data (commencing with SEVIRI image data, followed by Meteorological Products  
  Apr   Start of operational EUMETCast-Americas service with HR-SEVIRI image data service  
  Apr   Permanent availability of full Ku-Band bandwidth (8 Mbps) for the EPS Global Data Service, resulting in a total Ku-Band bandwidth of 12 Mbps  
  Feb   Start of the new EARS AVHHR Service (early access), commencing with data received from the Maspalomas Station, followed by reception of data from Lannion and Maspalomas  
  Jan   Start of ERS-SCAT demonstration service with Sea Wind product  
  Jan   Dissemination trials for the EUMETCast South America Service

  Feb   Increase of bandwidth for the DWDSAT service to 1.5 Mbps resulting in a total EUMETCast bandwidth of 3.8 Mbps  
  Jan   Performance of an end-to-end test with simulated EPS Global Product data, with a total data rate of 12 Mbps

  Nov   Start of trial dissemination (3 times per month) of the "Vegetation Index Product" (S10DVI), for African Users, provided by VITO  
  Oct   Improved timeliness for HRI image segments  
  Sep   Switch off of tp 129 (30 September)  
  Aug   Change of Ku-band transponder on Hotbird 6 from tp 129 (old) to tp 117 (new)  
  Jul   Dissemination of second OSI SAF product Merged Atlantic Product Sea Surface Temperature (MAP-SST)  
  Jun   Increase of EARS-ATOVS and RSS (Channel 1) bandwidth to 300 Kbps  
  May   Start of operational EUMETCast Key Unit (EKU) based encryption
