EUMETSAT celebrates 25th anniversary

The organisation has been monitoring weather and climate from space since 19 June 1986 and will continue to do so for decades to come with the new Meteosat Third Generation geostationary and the planned EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG) polar-orbiting satellites.
The first 25 years of EUMETSAT’s activities are the subject of special web content on the organisation’s website, [link removed - content no longer available] which includes an interactive timeline and interviews with past and present Directors-General.
EUMETSAT’s 25th anniversary was commemorated internally in a speech to employees by the present EUMETSAT Director-General, Dr. Lars Prahm, on 20 June, but the main celebratory event will be held on 28 July. This anniversary event will combine the celebration of EUMETSAT’s 25th anniversary with bidding farewell to Dr. Prahm, who will be succeeded by Alain Ratier on 29 July.
