EUMETCast-Americas service ended

On 15 December 2016 the EUMETCast-Americas service provided by EUMETSAT was discontinued.

Established in May 2006, the EUMETCast beam covering South and Central America had provided the EUMETCast-Americas service to users, utilising a DVB turnaround configuration.

This service was extended four times, but the final extension ended on 15 December 2016.

Users still wanting to receive EUMETSAT services can convert to a GEONETCast Americas service.

NOAA and their partner INPE, in Brazil, have prepared documentation outlining the steps to be taken to convert a EUMETCast station to a GEONETCast Americas station. The major changes are:

  • Re-pointing of the antenna.
  • Change to the antenna polarisation and re-tuning of the LNB.
  • Change to the client software – GEONETCast Americas service uses KenCast software.
