EUMETCast Europe backup satellite activation
A test activation of the backup satellite for EUMETCast Europe is planned from 3-7 May 2021.
22 September 2021
16 March 2021
EUMETSAT operates EUMETCast Europe in Ku-band via EUTELSAT 10A (E10A).
In case of an unrecoverable failure of E10A, the EUMETCast Europe service will be continued on HOTBIRD 13C (HB13C) in the 13° East orbital position.
A test activation of the EUMETCast Europe service on the foreseen HB13C transponders is planned to take place from late morning on 3 May to the afternoon of 7 May.
The operational service on E10A will not be affected by this test.
Users can participate by receiving the EUMETCast Europe traffic from HB13C. The reception parameters are listed in the following table.
|Parameter||Transponder 1||Transponder 2|
|Transponder||13C 6||13C 8|
|Down Link Frequency||11316.72 MHz||11355.08 MHz|
|1566.72 MHz||1605.08 MHz|
|Symbol Rate||33000 kS/s||33000 kS/s|
|Transmission Standard||DVB-S2, VCM mode||DVB-S2, CCM mode|
|MODCOD 1 — Basic Service||8PSK3/5
MPE TS, ISI=1
|No Basic service|
|MODCOD 2 — High Volume Service||16APSK2/3 MPE TS, ISI=1||16APSK2/3 MPE TS, ISI=1|
The antenna requirements for existing user locations are the same as for the operational service from E10A.
The choices are:
- Set up a separate reception chain for HB13C. See the satellite dish alignment section on how to point the antenna.
- Set up a multi-feed solution according to the Ku-band dual feed setup.
All recommended DVB devices are compatible with the HB13C downlink.
