Metop-B will, for the time being, remain the prime operational Metop satellite. This means that the Antarctic Data Acquisition service (ADA) via McMurdo will for now remain with Metop-B. The decision on the designation of Metop-C as the prime operational Metop satellite will be made in autumn 2019.
The transition of Metop-C to ‘secondary operational’ status has the following implications for all the Metop-C products that are currently in full dissemination on EUMETCast, or will be by 3 July,:
- The flagging in the filenames will change from ‘_C_’ (commissioning) to ‘_O_’ (operational).
Example: ASCA_SZF_1B_M03_20190604072100Z_20190604072359Z_N_O_20190604085200Z.bz2
- Products that are meant for distribution on the GTS/RMDCN will start being distributed on the GTS/RMDCN.
- Product status will be shown on the Operational Service Status Indicator (OSSI) on our website.
All the above is planned to take place on 3 July 2019.
