Rapidly Developing Thunderstorms and Convective Rain Rate products will be available on EUMETCast Africa from 18 June.

The Rapidly Developing Thunderstorms — Convection Warning (RDT-CW) product and the Convective Rain Rate (CRR) product are two new geostationary meteorological products for nowcasting applications from the Meteosat 0° service.

  • RDT-CW product: it provides short-range forecasting and nowcasting users with a large range of parameters about convection events and their predicted development.
  • CRR product: it is based on estimates of rainfall rates from convective systems, using MSG SEVIRI images from multiple spectral channels.

Both products are generated with the NWC-SAF Geo 2016 software package. They are in netCDF4 format.

Users already subscribed to ‘0° Meteosat Meteorological Products’ on EUMETCast Africa will receive these new products automatically. Other users wishing to receive these products should register via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP).
