
Release of new humidity Climate Data Records


Three new humidity Climate Data Records, from Metop, NOAA and the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program, available to users from July 2020 .

The three new data records are:
MHS Microwave Humidity Sounder Climate Data Record Release 1 - Metop and NOAA
Release 1 of the Fundamental Climate Data Record (FCDR) of the Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) on board NOAA satellites N18 and N19 and EUMETSAT satellites Metop-A and Metop-B. The FCDR provides recalibrated brightness temperatures with detailed uncertainty estimates and error correlation information. The FCDR was generated in the EU Horizon2020 Fidelity and uncertainty in climate data records from Earth Observations (FIDUCEO) project and, as further elaborated in the product user guide, the FCDR files are provided in FIDUCEO EASY netCDF4 formats.
SSM/T-2 Microwave Humidity Sounder Climate Data Record Release 1 - DMSP
Release 1 of the Fundamental Climate Data Record (FCDR) of the Microwave Humidity Sounder consists of measurements from Special Sensor Microwave Humidity (SSM/T-2) on board Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites F11, F12, F14, and F15. The FCDR provides recalibrated brightness temperatures with detailed uncertainty estimates and error correlation information. The FCDR was generated in the EU Horizon2020 Fidelity and uncertainty in climate data records from Earth Observations (FIDUCEO) project and as further elaborated in the product user guide, the FCDR files are provided in FIDUCEO EASY netCDF4 formats.
AMSU-B Microwave Humidity Sounder Climate Data Record Release 1 - NOAA
Release 1 of the Fundamental Climate Data Record (FCDR) of the Microwave Humidity Sounder consists of FCDRS from Advanced Microwave Humidity Sounder-B (AMSU-B) on board National Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellited N15, N16, and N17. The FCDR provides recalibrated brightness temperatures with detailed uncertainty estimates and error correlation information. The FCDR was generated in the EU Horizon2020 Fidelity and uncertainty in climate data records from Earth Observations (FIDUCEO) project and, as further elaborated in the product user guide, the FCDR files are provided in FIDUCEO EASY netCDF4 formats.
Figure 1 shows the time series of brightness temperature of channel 3 (183.31 +/- 1.00 GHz) for all Microwave Humidity Sounder instruments considered in the FCDRs. The FCDRs provide consistent and stable time series due to improved calibration. The shaded regions denote the uncertainties in the measurements.
