Jason-3 ocean data products available to all users

Today, an important milestone has been passed in the commissioning of the US-European Jason-3 ocean-monitoring mission launched on 17 January 2016 with the release of the near-real time (NRT) Operational Geophysical Data Records (OGDR) and the non-time critical (NTC) Interim Geophysical Data Record (IGDR) to all users.

Jason-3 delivers first data and products four days after launch

Four days after its launch on 17 January, the Jason-3 high-precision ocean altimetry satellite is delivering its first sea surface height measurement data in near-real time for evaluation by engineers from the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), EUMETSAT, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and scientists from the international Ocean Surface Topography Science Team.

Dual Capacity Established for Jason High Precision Ocean Altimetry Mission

After a series of re-orbiting manoeuvres for Jason-2, a dual Jason capability has been established, increasing the data flow for ocean models through enhanced spatial and temporal sampling of the ocean variables.

Jason-3 successfully launched

The Jason-3 high-precision ocean altimetry satellite was successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California at 19:42 CET (10:42 California time) on a Falcon 9 launcher procured by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as the acquisition agent for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Jason-3 prepares for launch in early August

The Jason-3 ocean altimetry satellite was shipped to Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, on 17 June. The launch campaign will start with the arrival of the satellite at Vandenberg today for a launch date in early August, to be announced by NOAA in the coming days.

Jason-2 moves to a new orbit to assume added role in mapping Earth’s mean sea surface elevation

Council takes steps to implement the EPS-SG and Jason-CS programmes

In the presence of Dr Stephen Volz, Assistant Administrator for NOAA Satellite and Information services, the EUMETSAT Council took important decisions for the implementation of the EPS-Second Generation (EPS-SG) and Jason-Continuity of Service (Jason-CS) programmes, both approved this summer and implemented in cooperation with the United States.
