Winter cyclones regularly bring snowfall to the northwestern part of the Himalayas. This year, the first snow was anticipated with dread in the Kashmir region, which was struck by an earthquake on 8 October 2005, leaving millions of people homeless.

The images from the visible channel (VIS) cover the period from 6 November to 9 November, and when studied in chronological order, the images show how a cyclone from the Arabian Gulf arrives 7 November and causes a significant snowfall, which is visible when the area is cloud free again on 8 November.
