During the Meteosat-11 decontamination period, no Meteosat-11 data will be available. Meteosat-9 Full Earth Scan (FES) data (rectified to 0°) will be available instead.

A parallel dissemination service, one week before and one week after Meteosat-11 decontamination, i.e. from 10/01 to 31/01/2022, will be provided through the EUMETCast Europe service only. The parallel data from the non-prime FES spacecraft will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe, on EUMETSAT Data Channel 15 (PID: 500, Multicast address: 224.223.222.3). The parallel data will have ‘_PAR’ included in their filenames.

Planned timeline:

  • 10 January 09:00 UTC to 17 January 09:00 UTC:
Met-11 prime FES spacecraft, with both Met-9 and Met-11 image data and Meteorological products disseminated in parallel*. Met-9 data, rectified to 0°, will be distributed on EUMETSAT Data Channel 15, with filenames like:
    H-000-MSG2__-MSG2_PAR____-HRV______-000016___-202201101230-C_
    L-000-MSG2__-MPEF_PAR____-CTH______-000001___-202201101230-__
  • 17 January 09:00 UTC to 24 January 09:00 UTC:
Met-9 prime FES spacecraft, with image data and Meteorological products (rectified to 0°) disseminated. Met-11 decontamination with no data dissemination. Met-10 available as FES backup in case of Met-9 anomalies (that would mean an interruption of RSS service and only images would be disseminated for FES).
  • 24 January 09:00 UTC to 31 January 09:00 UTC:
Met-9 prime FES spacecraft (still), with both Met-9 and Met-11 image data and Meteorological products disseminated in parallel*. Met-9 data rectified to 0°. Met-11 data will be distributed on EUMETSAT Data Channel 15, with filenames like:
    H-000-MSG4__-MSG4_PAR____-HRV______-000016___-202201241230-C_
    L-000-MSG4__-MPEF_PAR____-CTH______-000001___-202201241230-__
  • 31 January 09:00 UTC:
Met-11 prime FES spacecraft. Met-9 data dissemination stops.

(*)The Geostationary Nowcasting products (Cloud Mask, Cloud Type, Cloud Top Temperature and Height) will not be available from the non-prime spacecraft.

Users wishing to receive the parallel Meteosat data streams should register with our User Service Helpdesk.

For users of the GTS, during the period 17 January 09:00 UTC to 31 January 09:00 UTC, Meteosat-9 will provide the Level 2 products with operational bulletin headers assigned.

For users of the Data Store, during the period 17 January 09:00 UTC to 24 January 09:00 UTC, Meteosat-9 Level 1.5 SEVIRI data will be available in place of Meteosat-11. For EUMETView, there will be no visible impact on service for users, the 0 degree imagery will be derived from Meteosat-9 data during the decontamination period.
