Release of upgraded Fire Risk Map product from LSA SAF
LSA SAF will release an upgraded Fire Risk Map product, FRMv2, on 22 July 2021.

The FRMv2 (LSA-504.2) operational product will supersede the current FRM (LSA-504) on 22 July 2021.
FRMv2 provides an improved assessment of the meteorological fire danger over Mediterranean Europe, based on LSA SAF data records of daily released energy by active fires derived from SEVIRI/MSG (i.e. LSA-502, LSA-550). When compared with FRM, FRMv2 provides a better discrimination of fire risk (five classes instead of three) and increased forecast range.
The Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI), and respective sub-indices, will also be distributed as auxiliary data, along with the FRMv2, via EUMETCast, for the Euro domain for steps F024, F048 and F072. In addition to these steps (already available with the current FRM), FRMv2 will also offer two new steps: F096 and F120. The distribution of these new steps via EUMETCast will take place at a later stage and will be announced in due course.
Note: All five steps will be available via the LSA SAF NRT ftp rolling archive from 22 July.
FRMv2 will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe and EUMETCast Terrestrial, on the same channels as the FRM:

Filenames remain unchanged.
Users already subscribed to receive LSA SAF products via EUMETCast will receive this upgraded product automatically. Other users wishing to receive the product should register via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP).
