MODIS Burned Area product from CSIR soon on EUMETCast

The MODIS Burned Area product from CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) will be available from 19 January.

The MODIS Burned Area product (MODIS Burned Area product — Multimission - Southern Africa), based on the Giglio algorithm, covers the whole southern Africa and is distributed in the frame of the MESA (Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa) programme.

It is in GeoTIFF format and replaces the discontinued CSIR Burned Area product which was in TIFF format.

It is produced in the first few days of every month.

Note: the dates in the filenames lag by 2 months, e.g. in February 2017, the filename will show dates from December 2016.

Filename convention: AMESD_SADC_MODIS_BA_<YEAR><Julianday>.<YEAR><Julianday>_SAfri_v1.tif

The product will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe and EUMETCast Africa:

Channel: EUMETSAT Data Channel 12
PID: 301 (Europe and Africa)
