Analysis of GOME-2 (FM201-3) Slit function Measurements

The study provides detailed instrument spectral response data for the GOME-2 flight model 1 (FM1) to be used in level-1b to level-2 processing (geo-physical parameter inversion from hyper-spectral radiance measurements).

Overview

The GOME-2 on Metop-C was calibrated on ground during the course of the 2nd half of 2017. The calibration measurement data acquired for the spectral response of the instruments 4096 channels of the main detectors has been analysed by the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), UK. RAL has already carried out similar analysis for the GOME-2 Metop-A and B instruments.

The result of this analysis is transferred to a final key-data package which will be used predominantly by users of level-1b for level-2 retrievals.

The study analyses, in detail, the required correction (straylight, spectral assignment) of the raw calibration measurement data, before applying a complex model for the final ISRF derivation (Figure 1).

The study also provides estimates of the impact on ozone profile retrieval accuracy through the derived ISRF error estimates (Figure 2).
