The presentation will give an overview on the EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS), which is EUMETSAT's contribution to the Initial Joint Polar System (IJPS), together with NOAA.

Metop-A has been in orbit since October 2006, and is working fine. To assure continuity Metop-B was launched in September 2012 and became the prime satellite on 24 April 2013, after successful commissioning.
A short introduction will give an overview of the system. The space segment, composed of the Metop satellites, will be presented. The instruments will be discussed, and the products and services provided by the ground segment will be presented.
Some aspects of the availability of two Metop satellites will also be highlighted. An outlook will conclude the presentation.
