June saw the start of a prolonged heatwave in much of Europe was characterised by prolonged heatwaves, leading to droughts in some areas. A number of places in Europe had their driest June on record.

Other events included:

  • Eruptions from volcano Fuego, 40 km west-southwest of Guatemala City, which brought disaster and many deaths to its surrounding area.
  • Hurricanes Aletta and Bud
  • Typhoon Maliksi
