Calling all ocean/marine experts! We need your expertise to help us develop plans to promote the use of the new Copernicus Marine Data Stream (CMDS).
The Copernicus Marine Data Stream comprises data and products from the marine component of the Sentinel-3 mission, the Jason series and other EUMETSAT missions, and includes near-real-time, short-time-critical and non-time-critical products.
With your expert input we hope to develop a training and outreach strategy to promote the use of the Copernicus Marine Data Stream in the ocean community.
Expert Exchange on EUMETSAT’s Copernicus Marine Data Stream (invitation only)
Date: 29–30 November 2016
Location: IOC Project Office for IODE, Oostende
Pre-workshop online interaction: 31 October–11 November 2016 (open to all)
Register via Copernicus.Training@eumetsat.int, deadline 5 September.
The main focus of the workshop will be on Ocean Colour, Sea Surface Temperature, Sea Surface Height, wind and waves.
The workshop will provide first-hand information on the products and data formats of the Copernicus Marine Data Stream, to help researchers and others to quickly adopt these data.
Participants will be able to talk to product development experts and provide feedback on the products provided in the data stream.
The workshop will be preceded by an online briefing, introducing the Copernicus Marine Data Stream (CMDS) products, including information on:
- The geophysical variables provided including timeliness/temporal resolution and spatial resolution of the product, plus basic principles of the retrieval processes applied.
- Accuracy of the products (validation results).
- How to access/receive the data.
- Data format of the products.
- Examples of applications.
- Examples of software tools available to handle the data format.
The online phase is 31 October–11 November 2016 and should take about 10 hours. We anticipate participants will focus on their area of scientific interest. The material will remain available online. Note: The online briefing is optional and not a prerequisite to join the workshop in Oostende.
The subsequent workshop in Oostende will focus on an expert level exchange about the potential applications of the CMDS products and the associated needs to which EUMETSAT's training activities should be tailored.
The discussions will take place in splinter groups related to the geophysical variables provided within the CMDS. Each group will be joined by CMDS product experts.
Participants will also have the chance to explore using the data
Workshop costs and registration
The workshop is free. EUMETSAT will pay for accommodation and the catering on site. Limited travel funds are available upon request. EUMETSAT will also host a workshop dinner on Tuesday evening, to which all participants are invited.
Please note: The workshop in Oostende is by invitation only, the online phase is open to all.
