New precipitation products from H SAF on EUMETCast soon

The PR-OBS-3B and PR-OBS-5B products from H SAF will be available on EUMETCast from 14 February.

These products have full disk coverage and are enhanced versions of the PR-OBS-3A and PR-OBS-5A products, respectively, which have European coverage.

PR-OBS-3B: Precipitation rate at ground by GEO/IR supported by LEO/MW (ID: H03B)

The product is derived from instantaneous precipitation maps generated by IR images over full-disk. The data are acquired from operational geostationary satellites ‘calibrated’ by precipitation measurements from MW images in sun-synchronous orbits. Note: This product is intended to replace the Meteosat 0° MPE (Multi-Sensor Precipitation Estimate) product in 2019. More information on this will be communicated in due course.

PR-OBS-5B: Accumulated precipitation at ground by blended MW and IR (ID: H05B)

The product is derived from precipitation maps generated by merging MW images over full-disk. The data are acquired from operational sun-synchronous satellites and IR images from geostationary satellites.

Both products will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe and EUMETCast Africa:

EUMETCast Europe: Channel SAF-Global (PID: 300, Multicast address: 224.223.222.32)

EUMETCast Africa: Channel A1C-SAF-5 (PID: 100, Multicast address: 224.223.225.3)

Users already subscribed to H SAF products on EUMETCast will receive these new products automatically. Other users wishing to receive these products should register via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP).

The old versions of the products, PR-OBS-3A and PR-OBS-5A, are planned to be discontinued on 14 March.
