Public release of first Metop-C data from the GRAS instrument

Metop-C GRAS Level 1B data and ROM SAF GRAS Level 2 data will be available from 7 March.

The GRAS data are the first data from Metop-C having successfully been validated. Both Level 1B data and the ROM SAF Level 2 data now have operational quality.

The GRAS Level 1 data are generated with PPF (Product Processing Facility) version 4.6.1.

They will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe, on the High Volume Service Transponder 1 (HVS-1), using the following channel:

Channel: E1H-EPS-6
PID: 600
Multicast address: 224.223.223.12

Example filename:

W_XX-EUMETSAT-Darmstadt,SOUNDING+SATELLITE,METOPC+GRAS_C_EUMP_20190219132110_01485_eps_t_l1.bin

Note: when the Metop-C satellite is declared operational, some elements of the filename will change, as follows:

  • ‘EUMP’ will become ‘EUMR’
  • ‘_t_’ will become ‘_o_’.

The ROM SAF Level 2 data which contain EUMETSAT’s bending angle data will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe, using the following channel:

Channel: SAF-Europe
PID: 500
Multicast address: 224.223.222.28

They will also be distributed on the GTS.

Users wishing to receive Metop-C GRAS Level 1 data should register via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP). Users currently subscribed to ROM SAF data on EUMETCast will receive the new Metop-C GRAS Level 2 data automatically.
