Change to Meteosat 0° Geostationary Nowcasting cloud products

The products are:

Geostationary Nowcasting Cloud Type (CT)
Geostationary Nowcasting Cloud Mask (CMa)
Geostationary Nowcasting Cloud Top Temperature and Height (CTTH)

They have been generated with NWC SAF GEO software version 2014 so far.

EUMETSAT is planning to transition to using version 2016 of the NWC SAF GEO software for the generation of these products, starting 18 June. At the same time, the following changes will be implemented:

  • The processing area will be limited to Europe and North Atlantic. This will allow to improve the data timeliness.
  • The data format will change from HDF-5 to netCDF-4.
  • Product filenames will change, see examples below:

The new products will replace the current products on EUMETCast Europe from 18 June. The current products will continue to be distributed on EUMETCast Africa.

The channel for EUMETCast Europe remains unchanged:

Multicast address:
PID: 301

Sample files of the new products are available on our FTP server:

An upgrade to NWC SAF GEO software version 2018 is planned for later this year, without affecting the data format and the processing area. More about this will be communicated in due course.

Users already subscribed to Meteosat 0° Meteorological Products on EUMETCast Europe will receive these new products automatically. Other users wishing to receive these products should register via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP).
