Extension of the regional FY-3 Atmospheric Sounding Service

The regional FY-3 Atmospheric Sounding Service will be extended on 1 August to include data from the FY-3D satellite.

Thursday, 25 July 2019

The regional FY-3 Atmospheric Sounding Service, also called EARS-VASS, currently consists of Level-1B data from CMA’s FY-3C MWHS-II (Micro-Wave Humidity Sounder II) and IRAS (Infra-Red Atmospheric Sounder) instruments.

From 1 August, EARS-VASS will be extended to include Level-1B data from the MWHS-II (Micro-Wave Humidity Sounder II) and MWTS-II (Micro-Wave Temperature Sounder II) instruments onboard the FY-3D satellite.

The data are currently acquired at the Athens, Kangerlussuaq, Lannion, Maspalomas and Svalbard EARS stations.

They will be distributed on:

EUMETCast Europe, Basic Service

EUMETSAT Data Channel 1
Multicast address:
PID: 500

Example filenames:

Bulletin headers:
For MWHS-II: INKN [01-10] EUMS
For MWTS-II: INTN [01-10] EUMS

Note: The MWTS-II geolocation information can differ from the geolocation of the FY-3D global data for some orbits by up to 8 km.

Users currently subscribed to EARS-VASS data via EUMETCast will receive the new regional FY-3D data automatically. Other users wishing to receive EARS-VASS data should register via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP).
