Metop-A AVHRR Polar Atmospheric Motion Vectors Climate Data Record

This is the first release of Metop-A AVHRR Polar Atmospheric Motion Vectors Climate Data Record.

Two datasets are available:

  1. Dataset derived using the EUMETSAT algorithm:
    This dataset uses the version 2.4 of the EUMETSAT operational algorithm. The data record includes products generated with IR images taken from the AVHRR/3 imager on-board the Metop-A satellite. It covers the period from March 2007 until December 2014. There is one product every 100 minutes. Each product contains several wind vectors with their associated speed, direction, height, and several quality indicators. The coverage boundaries are polar caps polar wards of 45º.
  2. Datataset derived using the CIMSS algorithm:
    This dataset was generated with an adapted version of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) operational algorithm. Like the EUMETSAT algorithm-based dataset, it includes products generated with IR images taken from the AVHRR/3 imager on-board the Metop-A satellite. It also covers the period March 2007 until December 2014. The coverage boundaries are polar caps polar wards of 65º.
  3. Both datasets are Thematic Climate Data Records (TCDR). They are available in two formats: the EUMETSAT generic EPS format and the BUFR format.
