Lunar Calibration Workshop

This meeting, bringing together experts from the Global Space-based Inter-Calibration System (GSICS) and the Infrared and Visible Optical Sensors (IVOS) subgroup, aims to share knowledge and expertise in the field of lunar calibration. Participants will join from international and national agencies developing and operating Earth observing satellite missions.

Participants will discuss:

  • Measurements and Moon observations: towards SI traceability
  • Lunar calibration systems and model development
  • Instrument monitoring using lunar calibration
  • Thermal Infrared and microwave remote sensing and lunar observations
  • Inter-calibration using lunar observations
  • Alternative applications of lunar observation, including geometric and MTF post-launch characterisation

In fostering knowledge sharing and collaborations, the workshop will help to improve and enhance the current capabilities provided by lunar imagery to assess the radiometric performances of instruments in space. The workshop is intended to lead to a series of recommendations, actions and potentially to decisions to help the lunar community and the participating agencies to improve the accuracy of their system and reduce the uncertainties on the measurements and reference data.
