Who We Are
EUMETSAT was formed in 1986 with the objective to provide, from space, information that can be used in weather forecasting and climate applications.
Strategy

Climate Monitoring
To better understand the global climate system and especially to be able to anticipate its future evolution, not only do we need global data sets, we must also coordinate climate analysis, modelling and predictions on an equally global basis in order to establish the correct climate state and to create powerful modelling tools for climate prediction.
International Relations
EUMETSAT participates in a vast range of activities in the international arena in the pursuit of its strategy. EUMETSAT is part of the European Meteorological Infrastructure (EMI), is active in the arena of international cooperation and also serves as the Secretariat of the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) with participation from all countries worldwide operating meteorological satellites.
