The main purpose of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is to deliver weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products– 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's 
Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users world-wide. EUMETSAT is an international organisation and was founded in 1986.

Climate Monitoring
To better understand the global climate system and especially to be able to anticipate its future evolution, not only do we need global data sets, we must also coordinate climate analysis, modelling and predictions on an equally global basis in order to establish the correct climate state and to create powerful modelling tools for climate prediction. |
International Relations
EUMETSAT participates in a vast range of activities in the international arena in the pursuit of its strategy. EUMETSAT is part of the European Meteorological Infrastructure (EMI), is active in the arena of international cooperation and also serves as the Secretariat of the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) with participation from all countries worldwide operating meteorological satellites. |
