The main purpose of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is to deliver weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products– 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users world-wide. EUMETSAT is an international organisation and was founded in 1986.

On 4 April, EUMETSAT Director-General Alain Ratier led a delegation attending an information day for the Western Balkan countries organised by EUMETSAT and the Meteorological Services of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The first International Ocean Colour Science (IOCS) meeting will take place in the Darmstadtium, Darmstadt, Germany, from 6 to 8 May 2013. This is the first of a series of IOCS meetings which are scheduled to take place every two years and will bring together ocean colour Scientists from around the world.
