Access to Marine Data Stream from EUMETSAT

The European Union has entrusted EUMETSAT to operate the Copernicus Sentinel-3 marine mission and to deliver marine data services to Copernicus service providers and users, supporting the development of a broader range of real-time marine applications and services in Europe.

To prepare users to access this unique and integrated Marine data stream, the European Commission and EUMETSAT are pleased to invite you to attend a “Copernicus Users Information Day” (#MarineInfoDay), planned to take place at EUMETSAT Headquarters (Darmstadt, Germany) on 11 September 2015.

The focus of the day will be on ensuring that users are well prepared to set-up the infrastructure they need to get access to the Copernicus Marine data stream.

Participation in the Information Day will be limited to 120 persons, due to limitations in the size of EUMETSAT facilities. EUMETSAT will host a WebEx Meeting for the plenary sessions only.

The Day at a glance

In 2016, EUMETSAT will support the commissioning of the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite by ESA, following its launch. EUMETSAT will also start to extract marine products at its multi-mission facilities in Darmstadt and to deliver these, as well as other products from Jason-3, EUMETSAT and other third party missions from the US, China, India, in a unique data stream available across the EU and EUMETSAT’s Member States. To prepare users to access this unique and integrated Marine data stream, the European Commission and EUMETSAT are pleased to invite you to attend a “Copernicus Users Information Day”, planned to take place at EUMETSAT Headquarters (Darmstadt, Germany) on 11 September 2015.

The Information Day will start with a presentation by ESA and EUMETSAT of the overall concept of Sentinel-3 operations and products generation. The rest of the day will focus on the Marine mission operated by EUMETSAT. The Sentinel-3 Marine Mission products and data access will be demonstrated, as well as their integration with Marine data from EUMETSAT and third-party satellites. Dedicated sessions will provide detailed information on the data dissemination plans of EUMETSAT, relying on high-speed networks like GEANT, as well as on EUMETSAT’s operational EUMETCast multicasting service based on European commercial telecommunication satellites and the latest Digital Video Broadcast (DVB-S2) standard. EUMETSAT will also demonstrate a series of web-based services, which have been developed to support users in the access and exploitation of the Marine data. Through these systems, EUMETSAT intends to provide a flexible Marine data service (e.g. low or high volume, content and format), including Sentinel-3, Jason-3, EUMETSAT and third-party satellite data, to an unlimited number of simultaneous users in the EU, regardless of possible limitations of local communication infrastructures.

The Information Day will conclude with a tour of the control centre, data processing and archiving facilities.
