The Destination Earth system will go live on Monday 10 June 2024, during an official launch event hosted at the LUMI Supercomputer Center in Kajaani, Finland.

Margrethe Vestager, the Executive Vice-President for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age of the European Commission will inaugurate Destination Earth in a high-level event together with other representatives of the European Commission, the Destination Earth implementing entities (the European Center for Medium-range Forecasts – ECMWF, the European Space Agency – ESA, and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites – EUMETSAT), the Finnish Government and other European and international key stakeholders.

Destination Earth is a flagship initiative of the European Commission to develop a highly-accurate digital model of the Earth (a digital twin of the Earth) to model, monitor and simulate natural phenomena, hazards and related human activities. 

The onsite event will be available to watch via a live stream.
