The main objective is to inform the national meteorological and hydrological services in the region about the status of EUMETSAT programmes and planned activities.  Key issues are data access and training, as well as gathering feedback from those who use our data. The input that is gathered results in the planning of joint actions to improve access to and use of satellite data in the countries of this region. The meeting is by invitation only.

The EUMETSAT Information Day for Western Balkan national meteorological and hydrological services will be held on 18-19 April 2023, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This regional event is jointly organised by EUMETSAT and the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of supporting non-member states in the region in strengthening their capacity to use the EUMETSAT data to keep their communities safe.

EUMETSAT freely provides its core data to the weather and climate communities around the globe to support efforts towards sustainable development, according to the World Meteorological Organization’s Unified Data Policy Resolution number 1. A specific focus this year will be on the new Meteosat Third Generation mission, whose first satellite was successfully launched in December 2022, and how its unprecedented weather observations will contribute towards improving early warnings for severe weather events in the region.

This event will enable participants to provide valuable feedback from the region on the use of meteorological satellite data and to discuss subsequent activities, including the link with initiatives from the European Union and the World Meteorological Organization.

The meeting is by invitation only. For more information, please contact Vincent Gabaglio.
