But for our meteorological satellite, Metop-C, the launch is just the start of the important activities.

In the third of our special videos for the Metop-C launch campaign, we look at what happens during the launch and early operations phase (LEOP) and commissioning of the satellite. Head of Flight Operations Division Mike Williams, Mission Control Systems Manager Gareth Williams and LEOP Service Procurement Manager Valeria Bozzi take us through the crucial steps after the satellite is released by the rocket and needs to “look after itself”.

As the video shows, although these critical phases that take us up until the data and products from the satellite’s instruments are first disseminated to users last only a few months, they are years in the planning. You can watch the video here.
