These impact-based forecasts cover areas such as water availability and quality, inland hydrology management, agricultural crop yield, energy efficiency, and human health risks. At the same time, there is a growing demand to better assess the impacts of weather compounds and climate-related events.
The First Foresight Workshop will address the need for improved contextualisation and risk assessment for these sectors, while also exploring the future advisory roles of national hydrological and meteorological services.
Its primary objectives are to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the Earth Observation System framework and to consider the synergies across various satellite measurements when addressing future requirements. In addition, the workshop aims to identify high-level observational needs essential for supporting impact-focused forecasting and climate advisory roles. By bringing together experts in these fields, the workshop will adopt a forward-looking and strategic approach to effectively address these challenges.
Outcomes from the workshop, together with session insights from the EUMETSAT annual conference in September 2025, will contribute to the formulation of an initial white paper, providing an overview of possible high-level requirements.
Participation in this event is by invitation only.
