An initiative to build a highly accurate digital model of the Earth, Destination Earth provides users access to the first two digital twins, or simulations, of the planet. One focuses on climate change adaptation and the other on weather-induced extremes.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about how to interact with these digital twins, discover the range of available visualisation tools, and explore a number of applications in the areas of flood risk management, agriculture, biodiversity, air pollution, renewable energy, and more.
“The user exchange will be an excellent opportunity for a wide range of people to come together to explore the multitude of ways they can use Destination Earth in their own fields, from operational weather forecasting to policy,” said Lothar Wolf, EUMETSAT Head of Digital Solutions and Programme Manager for Destination Earth.
“It’s an incredibly powerful initiative that becomes even more powerful through user collaboration,” he continued.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to discover more about the Destination Earth Data Lake, a central location where the vast quantities of the initiative’s data are stored, and the DestinE Platform, through which users can access its tools, applications, and services.
Destination Earth is a European Commission initiative implemented by EUMETSAT, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).
Anyone who would like to attend the conference in-person is welcome to register by 30 September. Those who would like to attend online have until 10 October to register.
The event is free-of-charge.
