After today’s successful launch of Sentinel-3A, EUMETSAT is preparing to exploit the Copernicus satellite on behalf of the European Union, in cooperation with ESA.

EUMETSAT has confirmed the readiness of its teams and the new version of its ground segment to support the launch and commissioning of the Copernicus Sentinel-3B satellite in a two-satellite configuration with Sentinel-3A.

After successful completion of in-orbit commissioning, ESA has handed over operations of the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite to EUMETSAT

As of today, EUMETSAT has responsibility for the full dual spacecraft operations of Sentinel-3A and 3B and the marine data production. In the coming few weeks, the team will complete those commissioning activities which could only be performed in the nominal orbital configuration and will ramp up the product releases.

The Copernicus Sentinel-6 satellite, which will measure sea-level rise and ice thickness, will be available for a last visit in the cleanroom before it is further tested and prepared for launch in late 2020 from the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

Following the successful completion of the Launch and Early Operations Phase of the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite by ESOC, EUMETSAT will start on Monday, 22 February, to support in-orbit commissioning activities.
