Data users in African countries are able to receive the data via the new PUMA-2025 ground reception stations deployed by the African Union Commission under the EU-funded ClimSA programme. For the last few months, many African weather services have been working with near-real-time MTG data in their operational environments.
EUMETSAT, in cooperation with the African Union Commission and ACMAD, is pleased to organise a webinar in which data users showcase the benefits of the new Meteosat Third Generation products in various applications and countries throughout Africa. The main objectives of the webinar are to highlight the benefits of MTG in various weather and climate sensitive socio-economic sectors in Africa; to present initial feedback from African stakeholders on the MTG products received through the recently deployed PUMA-2025 stations and to present updates on the MTG programme and MTG-Africa products portfolio.
Preliminary programme
The webinar will start at 10:30 CEST (GMT+2) and last approximately 2 and a half hours. It is divided into two parts.
Part I: this part will focus on activities undertaken by the African Union, the European Union and EUMETSAT. It will discuss the MTG products available in Africa, which will be illustrated with a set of presentations by users in Africa, who will showcase the specific benefits they derive from the data available.
Part II: in this part we will delve into the status of the PUMA-2025 station deployment and training. With additional African data users showcasing how they best access and use MTG data.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
This webinar is open to everyone, particularly to participants from institutions interested in weather and climate services in Africa, in disaster risk reduction, as well as in the broader use of space technologies in the continent.
The webinar will be delivered live using the Zoom platform and the video of it will be available afterwards on YouTube for anyone to watch after the event.
The webinar will be conducted in English and French and is free to join. You will receive the Zoom connection details automatically together with your registration confirmation.
