The European Weather Cloud, (EWC) becomes operational today, providing seamless access to online data, functions, and services from both the ECMWF and EUMETSAT.

The EWC is a community cloud. Its aim is to be the hub for meteorological application development and operations in Europe, bringing developers and users from different countries and organisations together to collaborate, share results and resources.

The EWC offers a high level of flexibility that will allow users of data and services to customise and deploy their applications and workflows, as well as to build and showcase services through the web. Users will run applications or services themselves, next to where the data is produced, thus avoiding large data movements over the network.

As the amount and variety of data distributed will vastly increase in the next few years, the EWC is expected to be the foundations for a strong European IT infrastructure that can evolve into a game changer in the way our community makes the best use of data and products.
