In view of this, we have established a first class childcare centre in a brand new building on our campus in Darmstadt, to help parents ease back into work after parental leave and to balance a demanding career with family life.
The EUMETSAT Childcare Centre, LittleOrbiters, opened its doors in November 2023. It has 44 places which are open to children of staff members, ranging from four months to primary school age.
The bright modern and sustainable childcare centre is easily accessible for EUMETSAT staff as it is situated on our campus opposite the main car park, and as such is conveniently located to drop off and pick up children before and after work.
It is made up of three spacious group rooms, each with its bathroom. In addition, it boasts a multipurpose room, an additional space for educational activities and a room for the children to rest. The heart of the childcare centre is an open bistro where the children can enjoy their meals together - a healthy freshly-prepared breakfast and lunch as well as drinks and snacks will be provided every day. The children can enjoy their play time in a spacious outdoor area shaded by lime trees.
The childcare centre will focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and ESD (education for sustainable development) as well as language education and multiculturalism. English and German will be the main languages spoken using the method “one person one language”.
The opening times are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 18:00. The centre will be closed for two weeks during the summer and two weeks over Christmas and New Year as well as on Hessian public holidays and other annual EUMETSAT holidays.
