
Image of the week: Typhoon Halong
Watching our Earth from space


This week’s image is of Typhoon Halong. The image was captured on 8 October by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites.
Typhoon Halong currently has maximum sustained wind speeds of 95 knots (09/10/25) and gusts up to 115 knots and is located in the Pacific Ocean, south of Japan. The typhoon has brought heavy rain and strong winds to Japan’s remote Izu islands.

The main image was captured by the OLCI instrument onboard one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 8 October 2025.
